Do some men wear long underwear year round when they get old?
It appear that is the case, and I have actually seen a few cases of elderly men wearing long sleeved shirts with the collar buttoned in July or August and then noticing the waffle weave pattern of their long underwear in the opening of the sleeve cuffs.
One theory is that people tend to get more sensitive to the cold when they get old. Another is that they got into the habit of wearing it regularly.
So, do you know of anyone who regularly wears his or her long underwear in summer as well as in winter even when it gets to 90 degrees or above. And is just one pair of long underwear enough, or do some people wear two or even three pairs?
Oh my goodness yes. A lot of elderly people wear clothing that feels too uncomfortably hot to us because of poor circulaton and reduced activity. We are constantly moving around, so we would not feel cold as easily, nor do most younger people have circulation problems. Also, some elderly are confused about what time of year it is, so they may continue to wear their long johns into the summer months.
Some of the elderly will insist on not using an air conditioner or even have a heater on in the hot weather. If they do this, they should be in a facility where someone else can regulate their environment so that they do not die of heat stroke.
