Velcro Tendon Boots

I was diagnosed with tendonitis of the ankle but was not told what to do to improve it?

My ankle has been bothering me off and on for about a year. In October I went to my family doctor and she said it was a severely sprained ankle gave me a velcro brace.

In February I went to a foot doctor and he said originally said my tendons were torn and put me in a boot. After a MRI he said that I had severe tendonitis and told me to wear the boot when I had to but I could just "Put it in my closet". He didn't tell me anything to help improve it. Didn't suggest physical therapy or anything.

I've been wearing the boot when I am on my feet at school and work and resting it as much as possible. Icing it seems to make it hurt worse so I only do that when I'm in alot of pain. It seems to be getting a little better but I was just wondering if anyone had been in this situation or had any ideas of what to do cause the doctor isn't helping by telling me to do nothing.

Tendonitis of the ankle, I am assuming you have achilles tendonitis which is basically inflammation of the tendon that straps the big gastroc muscles down onto your heel of the ankle. I would start out with the P.R.I.C.E. protocol. Protect, Rest, ICE, Compression, and elevate. Visit with a chiropractor that uses physical modalities such as ultrasound and electrical therapy. These therapies can help speed the healing process and get the inflammation under control. Massage therapy to the area can help free up tissue adhesions and increase mobility. Once the acute stage is over, your chiropractor can start you on progressive rehab exercises like treadmill, bicycle, stair climb, stretches, etc... to help build up your muscles and tendons and strengthen your ankle. A consultation with another D.P.M. (Podiatrist) may also be helpful as they can give you prescription anti-inflammatory drugs and design a custom orthotic shoe insert to help support your ankle instead of wearing a boot on occasion.
