Shooting a gun directly on the head of a horse make you go deaf or is it just an old wives tale?

Repeated exposure to fire weapons cause hearing loss. However, a shot usually does not cause – is years of exposure that do the trick. If you are shooting for shooting western riding, the horse may get some hearing loss, but nothing too remarkable. I've experienced have been caused by rifle or shotgun fire repeatedly used for years of hunting. It is usually unilateral, too, but then again, I've never seen anyone other barrel in between the ears and horses of fire. There are too many problems with the horse, shaking his head when the weapon fires.
