Saddle Shoes
Sometimes names can be slightly misleading. An item may be named after something that brings to mind one thing but means something else. In the shoe world, one type of shoe that does this little trick are Saddle Shoes. Now when you think of the word saddle, immediately you think of horses or horse Back Riding which these shoes have nothing to do with. In fact, if you even considered riding a horse with these shoes it would be a mistake on your part because they are just not made for the task. You see, originally Saddle shoes were basically a tan suede oxford shoe that has a saddle like piece of leather that crosses over the top of the shoe like a horse saddle crossing over the back of a horse with the traditional brick red rubber sole that you see on Ivy League Campuses across America. The leather saddle part of the shoe gives a very rich appearance and just has more character than the plain Jane suede oxford shoe. You may see the saddle part either perforated like a brogue or even fringe cut on the edges which is quite popular in the golfing world.
Now like everything else that is involved in shoe fashion, Saddle shoes come in whole array of colors and styles now as well. You may see saddle shoes in dark Brown Leather with a contrasting color saddle with leather soles or rubber soles. There are plenty of variations to choose from. Otherwise shoe designers wouldn't be able to keep a job for over a week. You'll see saddle shoes not only in the original tan suede with the Dark Brown Leather Saddle but also in white suede nu buck and even Smooth Leather color combinations as well. Now remember that it is much wiser to stay away from Horse Back riding if you're wearing saddle shoes. Perhaps the Country Club may be a more comfortable and suitable place.
