how many seconds can i drop?
i do a 53.40 in my 100 yd fly and that was without tapering (bc 2 snowstorms postponed the county meet) and with a standard lycra suit on.
if i got a lzr elite, tapered and shaved how many seconds could i drop?
we also had a meet the day b4 the county meet
Your taper may be effected by rest periods you experienced during the snow storms. If you were able to get hard swims in during those storms then your taper should not be effected. Tapering has a huge basis on consistent and uninterrupted training. It is also effected by the type of training your coach has given you and your age.
If you've had around 3 months of regular and uninterrupted practice and you taper well, statistically you'll drop about 3%. So, 0.03 x 53.4 = 1.6 seconds. 53.4 - 1.6 = 51.8, your expected time after tapering.
IF, however, you had several interruptions of more than 2 days in a row, a form of taper that is sometimes used is what is called a drop taper in which you swim hard until about 3 to 4 days before the big meet and then just rest for the remaining 3 or 4 days of practice ... do a warm-up and race planning.
No matter what the style of taper you go through, you MUST be certain that you get large amounts of sleep and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
