Lace Paddock
what boots should i get?
i am getting new boots and i dont know which ones to get. I don't want to spend too mcuh money because i only ride in the summer. I am considering saxon either lace up or zip up Paddock Boots or would i be better off getting something thats made with real leather? also what are the purpose of Half Chaps?
i have saxon lace-up paddock boots and i really like them. half chaps protect your lower leg from rubbing on the saddle, and i highly advise you wear them with paddock boots. for a few weeks i just rode in my saxon boots and jeans, and even then my lower leg was pinched (i ride english). then i got some dublin easy-care half-chaps, and i really like them. so far they've really worked well for me!

The Truth About Tall Riding Boots
Tall riding boots will be 1 - 1 1/2" too tall when you first put them on. The ankle area of the boot must soften and then with use will begin to wrinkle at the ankle. As it softens and wrinkles, the boot will begin to drop.
Do not put your boots on and go to a show all day. Break them in first. We suggest to walk around in them with the zipper down 1-2 inches. This will allow you to start breaking in the ankle without the boot jabbing you in the back of the knee.
Once mounted, pull the zipper up and go into the ring.
Leather softens as it is used.
Field Boots have more flexibility in the ankle and are used in many disciplines such as Jumping, Hunter, Equitation and Pleasure.
Dress Boots are typically stiffer in the ankle and are used typically for dressage. They have a sleeker look to them.
Paddock boots are a short boots that stop at the ankle, they come in zipper and lace styles. These are typically worn with a Half Chap. Be aware that this style of boot is used for schooling purposes or for the young rider.
Please measure your calf while wearing breeches to determine correct calf width when ordering. To measure the height for your boot, sit in a chair and measure the back side of your leg from the floor to the bend in your knee
Use the sizing charts available or call 1.800.706.1364
TIP: If you have a problem with a large calf, purchase the widest boot available and take your new boot to the cobbler, they can insert an elastic gusset along the inside leg. This method is used a Great Deal and can't be seen while mounted.
